How did the company get its name?
- Simple, it's our owner Kate's favorite color and favorite animal.
Is your jewelry nickel free?
- We make our jewelry with a variety of materials, both higher quality and base metals, but the majority of our jewelry is nickel free. We use sterling silver, gold filled, rose gold filled, and titanium ear wires on most of our dangly earrings and plated components on our fashion pieces. The only exception is that we aren't entirely certain what materials make up the vintage studs and some of the sale pieces we offer, so if you have sensitive skin we suggest choosing an alternative option. If you have any material questions just ask!
How long does it take to make a custom item?
- It depends. If you're ordering a piece in-store most items average about 20-30 minutes depending on the complexity of the piece, and wait times may be longer if we have multiple orders ahead of yours. Our team members will provide you with an estimated wait time when you place your order. If you're ordering a piece online our current turnaround time for Etsy orders is 1-3 days; if you need something sooner please message us and we'd be happy to accommodate your timeline if we can.
What is the different between plated and filled materials/items?
- A lot of our fashion pieces, like our long necklaces and earrings, are made with plated components. Plated pieces are thin layers of a more precious metal deposited on the surface of a base metal (like brass or copper) to cover the surface. Plating will wear down over time due to many factors such as abrasion, exposure to moisture, and extensive wear–they aren't meant to last a lifetime which is why our pieces made with these materials often have lower price points. Filled items are made by thermally bonding a thick layer of precious metal to a thin layer of base metal–the process of thermal bonding paired with the higher precious metal content causes these items to wear very similar to solid gold. They will dull with wear, but can be brought back to their original state with the proper jewelry care. Most of our customizable jewelry is made with sterling silver, gold filled, or rose gold filled pieces.
Do you offer jewelry repair? Or repairs for non-RGD pieces?
- We can repair pieces made by us, such as broken chains, clasps, wires, etc. and also offer simple repairs on non-RGD jewelry within our skill set. We cannot offer extensive alterations such as ring re-sizing, fine metalworking, or watch repairs. Pricing for repairs varies on the amount of work and the materials used–it never hurts to ask if you're unsure about whether or not we can help fix something.
Do you make all of the jewelry in your stores?
- We are a jewelry studio and boutique, so we hand make a lot of the designs you see in the stores at our studio located in Columbus. While a lot of the pieces you see are made by our team, there are also pieces that are part of the boutique element of the business–these are items we don't have the ability to make ourselves and require skilled metalworking.
Do you sell the same items in-store and online?
- Yes and no. If we have a large number of materials to replicate a design from Etsy then we may send a few of each to our stores, but most of the time the selections in-store and online are entirely different. Chances are you won't see many things we offer online at our retail locations. We love that our stores give us the flexibility to send one-of-a-kind designs to each location so we can provide a wide variety of jewelry options to customers. It's also fairly rare to see the same designs in multiple locations, so if you see something you're in love with it's likely a one-off design we won't make again.
How does local pick up work?
- If you live in the Columbus area or would like to pick up an online order at one of our retail locations we provide local in-store pick up for free! On Etsy there is a "Note to Seller" section at checkout where you'll leave your first & last name, phone number, and preferred pick up location for us. We'll make your order at our studio within 1-2 days and send it out for pick up. One of our team members will contact you when your order is ready, but please don't arrive before you're contacted to ensure your order has arrived. If you need an order quickly and don't have time to order online or stop by you can always place an order over the phone.
Will your jewelry turn my skin green?
- When a piece tints your skin green it's often made out of brass or copper. It's in the nature of these metallize to oxidize which is what causes the green marks on your skin and they also react with exposure to moisture. Whether or not this might happen to you is dependent on your body chemistry and how you care for your jewelry. We suggest taking off brass and copper pieces to swim, wash your hands, apply lotion, etc. and to apply a coat of clear nail polish to the inside or back of the piece. If you're prone to have this reaction we can point you in the direction of materials that would be better suited for your skin.
Where do you source your stones and materials from?
- The materials we use are sourced from a variety of suppliers all over the world.
- Simple, it's our owner Kate's favorite color and favorite animal.
